Have you ever wondered where certain landmarks got their names or possibly just read a name on a state historical marker and had your curiosity piqued? Now a new resource, History of Kentucky Governors, written by local historian Paul Whalen is your go to place.
Here are just a few tidbits written recently on the blog:
- Governor Lazarus W. Powell was also President Buchanan's emissary to the Mormons and one of KY's Civil War US Senators
- Preston H. Leslie elected in 1871. A Democrat, he traveled with his Republican opponent the future Supreme Court Justice John Marshall Harlan and shared hotel rooms etc. He is also one of 6 Kentuckians to serve as governor of Montana.
