Fort Thomas Weekend News and Notes
A few items that may have gotten lost in the past couple weeks:
1. A Fort Thomas tax preparer that was caught falsifying tax returns in Newport and faces a maximum of 3 years in jail and a $250,000 fine. He ran a business called Pioneer Financial Services Inc. You may want to review your filings if you did business with Pioneer.
2. A quick reminder about the Taste of the Season event that has become a must attend Fort Thomas social event the past few years. The event will be held next Saturday from 6 - 11pm. You can click the image above for more info and get contact info for ticket information.
3. I love to support Fort Thomas businesses but sometimes business owners do crazy things. An example... on Thursday night I was with a group of guys getting together for a few drinks and good conversation. Our go to has been the Midway Cafe but they were closed. Closed on a Thursday night that happens to be the first night of college football, a Bengals pre-season game, and one of the first college weekends. Why? Mios was the beneficiary of the Midway's ill-timed closure.
4. Last Night was the Powder Puff football game at Highlands. The game raised over $1,500 for breast cancer research and I was a part of the crowd which was thoroughly entertained. Huge props to my niece Mary Allis and her team of seniors which won the game - as they did the year before as juniors.

I honestly dont know how the midway cafe stays open.
They were on vacation....small business owners need a break once in awhile too.
I heard they couldn't staff enough people.
The Midway always closes when the owner is going on vacation..
A bigger sign would help, when that happens, but that might be an invitation to burglars..
Running a small business that does a lot of cash transactions has to be tough..
I don't know many small business owners that just close up shop at a whim with no warning or notice to their customers.
Like the previous commentor has said the owner has done this on multiple occasions. Just a horrible way to do business
