Patrick Towles to Play This Weekend for Kentucky

Let's start the trending topic on Twitter right now... #ThrowInTheTowles.

I actually stole that from Patrick Towles' mother, Amy, but seeing as though Patrick is going to see his first action as a Kentucky Wildcat this weekend, it's only fitting.

Towles came to Lexington as a 4-star Parade All-American Quarterback- top 10 in his class. Head Coach, Joker Phillips, decided to go with the experienced Quarterback as opposed to throwing a true freshman to the big bad SEC wolves.

Maxwell Smith, already limping into the game last week against South Carolina, suffered a season ending shoulder injury and is out indefinitely.  Morgan Newton, Kentucky's most experienced backup Quarterback, is also injured.

The two injuries forced Phillips to remove the redshirt status for Patrick's freshman year. Phillips said that the plan all along was that if Smith went down the Wildcats would pull the redshirt and play Towles. As Kentucky limps into the weekend at 1-4, I think everyone in Fort Thomas now knows the Wildcats have their best opportunity to win with Patrick.

The gameplan against 19th ranked Mississippi State this weekend in Lexington is to rotate the extremely mobile true freshman, Jalen Whitlow, and Patrick. But as Bluebirds fans probably know, Patrick can use his legs as well.

Towles has been running the first team scout team all year, and I've got no doubt he's been giving the UK's first string defense fits. I can't wait to see him in blue and white when it counts this weekend.

It's been frustrating watching this Kentucky team (not just for Terry Towles) because I know what Patrick can do, and I know he can help this team win. It'll be fun to watch the rest of the Big Blue Nation come to that realization this Saturday at Commonwealth Stadium.
