Salute to Veterans

In honor of Veterans Day, the Ft. Thomas Renaissance Board hosted the 5th Annual Salute to Veterans  on Saturday, November 10th and Sunday, November 11th. Tower Park's Mess Hall was bursting with military displays, vendors, and live entertainment. The schedule of events consisted of special demonstrations or musical acts each hour. While I attended the event Sunday, a dulcimer player was entertaining the crowd.

Many dioramas were set up throughout the Mess Hall, and each diorama depicted a specific era of military history. The Sixth Scale Collectors Club of Ohio is credited for creating these military scenes using 1:6th scale figures.

Military vehicles were positioned outside of the Mess Hall for kids to sit and play in. Military personnel were on hand to help kids climb into the vehicles and share their military experiences.

Also positioned outside was a Field Kitchen and a Revolutionary War reenactor. The Field Kitchen served a variety of food items including hot dogs, hamburgers, chili, and nachos. Visitors were welcome to walk through the Revolutionary War era tent as the reenact or discussed the items displayed.

Overall, the Salute to Veterans was a nice event for the community, and it was a great way to recognize the men and women who have courageously served our country.
