Highlands Middle School Seeks Volunteers

Ft. Thomas prides itself in providing an excellent education for local students. The Ft. Thomas Independent School system has been recognized on both state and national levels for their achievements in educating the town's youth. The schools boast an impressive array of faculty on staff, but that doesn't mean that they couldn't use a little help from their friends around town.

Highlands Middle School is currently seeking volunteers for their Peak program. Volunteers spend 45 minutes each week working one-on-one with the same student. The Peak program provides individualized support for students, and will help increase their math and reading scores for the Kentucky Core Content Tests. According to the Ft Thomas Independent Schools' website, "Peak at Highlands Middle School partners community volunteers with students. Our goal is to increase motivation and improve math and reading skills for students who are below their grade level in their work."

Volunteers have the ability to create their weekly schedule to fit their own their own needs. The school is flexible with scheduling, and has created time periods throughout the day for volunteers to meet with students. Volunteers can sign up to meet with middle schoolers Monday through Friday during 1st Period, Lunch, or 6th Period.

If you are interested in volunteering, send an email to linda.turner@fortthomas.kyschools.us or call 859-441-5222.
