| Krohn Conservatory Holiday Show |
One of my favorite
family traditions is actually one I inherited from my husband and his family:
Krohn Conservatory on Christmas Eve.
If you have not yet been to Krohn (in Eden Park), I highly recommend it
and, now that we have children, it is a must-do. During the year, Krohn is host to many species of plants,
flowers, trees, and hosts numerous events such as the ever-popular Butterfly
Show. In fact, Krohn Conservatory houses over 3,500 plant
species from all over the world. Inside, you can find a replica of a
rainforest, a desert, and a conservatory with a beautiful collection of
orchids.
But during the
holiday season, they decorate a Christmas tree in the front lobby, put
poinsettia’s throughout the greenhouse, and install a very neat train
display. The train display is by
far Knox’s favorite. Additionally, outside, there is a great live Nativity
display (live animals, wax people).
Per the website, “The train display and historical buildings created by Applied
Imagination will immerse our visitors in the sights and sounds of chugging
trains and splashing water, with trains overhead and trolleys at your
feet. The “botanical architecture” of bridges and historical
buildings, including the new Roebling Bridge, are all constructed of locally
gathered willow and other natural materials. “
