Blue Marble Bookstore Presents: Mama on a Budget: Where's Waldo

First there was the rotary, now there is the cell phone.   What once was a videocassette is now streaming on demand.  And modern-day geo-caching enthusiasts just may have gotten their start with a missing person search: Where’s Waldo?  Well, the search is on once again thanks to The Blue Marble.

Waldo, the iconic children’s book character, has just turned twenty-five. (wow, I’m getting old!).  And where has Waldo been after all these years? Well, this July he’ll be right here in Fort Thomas.  Blue Marble Books is hosting their annual Finding Waldo month long scavenger hunt.  The local bookstore and cultural epicenter, now in its 34th year of operation, annually invites 25 businesses to “host” a Waldo to be found by local scavengers and shop-local patrons.

Waldo, a cardboard cutout, will be stationed in 25 different local stores.  All of the shop owners will have a “passport” for anyone who requests one that can be completed with stamps as you find each of the Waldo cutouts.

At the end of July (July 27), The Blue Marble will be hosting a party at the bookstore and will be giving out prizes to participants.  Peter Moore, storeowner, said of last year’s Waldo celebration: “We were amazed at the number of new people who had never been in our store before. Waldo-spotting definitely increased foot traffic to our store and increased awareness of the local businesses in our town.”

So, be sure to be on the lookout for the beloved children’s character (hint: I bet he is wearing a red and white striped shirt).  Also, be sure to stop in to The Blue Marble today to take advantage of their buy-one, get-one free sale on all in-stock inventory, in time for your accelerated reader summer planning.  Be sure to tell them FTM sent you and, as always, whenever you can, be sure to shop local.
