We get to work with a lot of people and businesses at FortThomasMatters. I can honestly say that one of the most genuinely nice people I've worked with is Pedro Meza, owner of Anitas's Mexican Grill.
It's truly a family affair at Anita's, as I've gotten to know Pedro and his family members that work with him at the restaurant.
Even the name of the restaurant, Anita's, was named after Pedro's mother. That's what makes this Saturday, which is also the 1-year anniversary of the restaurant's opening, all the more special. The celebration will also commemorate the life of Anita by celebrating her birthday, which would have been today.
Anita's will feature $5 JUMBO margaritas, $2 domestic beers, jello shots and Azucar Tumbao Band will be playing salsa pop.
"After we decided to open in Fort Thomas, we told my mother that we were naming the restaurant after her and that really cheered her up," Meza said. "She was living with my sister in California and we were trying to bring her to Fort Thomas for the grand opening, but she was just too sick. She died a few weeks later."
These types of events are why we do what we do at FortThomasMatters. I know that if we can get our readers to understand why it's important to support their local businesses, the city will continue to attract strong businesses to our city. Owners like Pedro Meza are few and far between. Come out this Saturday, meet him, have a cocktail and some of his family's food straight from his mother, Anita's, cookbook.
