Laugh with the Village Idiots in October

It's officially Monday, which means back to the grind for most of us. Luckily, I have some news to help brighten this dreary Monday morning, and there's nothing like the promise of a night of laughs to cure those Monday morning blues.

On October 11th and 12th, Village Players Theater will be transformed into the Village Idiots Comedy Club. Some of the Cincinnati area's top comics will be taking the stage for two nights only. Be prepared to laugh the night away without having to leave the Ft. Thomas city limits.

According to event organizer Teri Foltz, this show is not only a great way to showcase local talent, but also supports one of our town's great creative spaces. "I had done two fundraisers for the Village Players and I knew they had financial needs for some improvements to their space. I invited comics to perform in the fundraisers and they really loved the quaint space hidden right in Ft. Thomas," said Foltz. After receiving positive responses from the audiences at the fundraisers, Foltz decided to create Village Idiots to provide local comics with more performance opportunities. "I thought that it would be nice if stand up comics had more paying gigs than just The Funny Bone (which is hard to get booked in) and Go Bananas, which is wonderfully generous to local comics but still, it's only one club.  So I thought I could create a benefit for both," said Foltz.

Foltz received an enthusiastic response from both the board at the Village Players and local comics about the comedy series. She recruited some of the area's most talented performers to entertain audiences at the Village Players. Mike Cronin, Teri Foltz, Michael Rudolph, Molly Stephens, Alex Stone, and Eileen Tull are all slated to perform in the October edition of the Village Idiots Comedy Club. The performers all range in variety of ages and backgrounds, which means that there will definitely be something for everyone to enjoy at the show.

The Village Idiots Comedy Club is a three-part series of stand-up comedy shows. The next two shows will take place February 29-March 1, 2014 and May 16-17, 2014. "Three times a year, between season shows, I am going to turn the theater into a comedy club featuring only the best local comics. These comics have worked professionally in town as openers and feature acts for touring headliners," said Foltz. If the shows are successful, Foltz plans to expand the concept to other community theaters throughout the area.

Foltz also plans to showcase up and coming talent at the shows in order provide newer comedians with a chance to perform for an audience. Also, she plans to always feature at least one female comedian at the shows. Stage opportunities for female comics are more difficult to obtain than for their male counterparts, and Village Idiots will provide another opportunity for talented female comics to perform.

Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door. You can purchase tickets through under "Village Idiots Comedy Club." All performances take place at 8:00pm at the Village Players Theater located at 8 N. Ft. Thomas Avenue.
