KY Symphony Orchestra, Digital Photography Classes, Mommy/Baby Yoga & More: February at the Fort Thomas Library

Mark your calendars carefully because there's lots going on at the Campbell County Public Library: Phillip N. Carrico/Ft. Thomas branch during the month of February. 

Probably the most exciting is a FREE concert by the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra's Newport Ragtime Band on Friday, Feb. 28a performance that kicks off an ongoing partnership between CCPL and ArtsWave, a Cincinnati-based nonprofit that works to promote the arts throughout the Greater Cincinnati area.

Here's a run-down of February's calendar:

Mommy and Baby Yoga
10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1
Moms and babies can enjoy stretching, strengthening and interacting with each other.  Bring a mat, if possible, and wear comfortable clothes.  Register.  Babies birth to age 2.  

Brown Bag Book Club
Noon Monday, Feb. 3 
Join this month’s discussion on Midnight in Peking by Paul French.  Adults. Snacks provided.

Adventure Club: LEGO Hunt
4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3
Go for a hunt to find the LEGO bricks needed to build your masterpiece.  Register.  Ages 6-11.

Six @ Six: Preserving Your Grandmother’s Quilt
6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4
Antique quilt collector Tracy DeBellevue explains proper techniques for care, display and storage of quilts that are historical artifacts.  Cost is $6 for the Six @ Six Community Lecture, and tickets are available at the door unless the event has sold out in advance.  Teens and adults.  For information contact

Improving Digital Photography
7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5
Photographers committed to improving their ability to take great photos can register for this series of five classes.  Ed Pieratt who taught visual communications at Ohio University and has traveled the world taking photos for a variety of publications, is the instructor.  Each session is 90 minutes.  The first class is Wed. Feb. 5.  Other classes are at 7 p.m. on Feb. 6, Feb. 11, Feb. 12 and Feb. 13.  Registration required.  Class size is limited.

Stay and Play or Run Away?

Join an instructor from Master Fry Defense for a kid-friendly self-defense class.  Children ages 4 and older can have fun while learning valuable skills to stay safe.  Families.  Register.

Sensory Friendly Story Time

This special story time is designed for children with sensory integration challenges and their families.  Come enjoy stories, songs, movement games and sensory actitives.  Ages 2-6.  Register.

Adventure Club: Art Explorations – Mondrian

Discover the art of Piet Mondrian and then create your own art masterpiece.  Ages 6-11.  Register.

Chess Club

Join the piece movement! The library's chess club is open to players of all levels. Ages 8 and up. Registration required. Snacks provided. 

ArtsWave Presents: Kentucky Symphony Orchestra’s Newport Ragtime Band
7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28
Formed 15 years ago to explore the roots of America’s popular music heritage, the Newport Ragtime Band offers popular tunes that incorporate blues, Dixieland, and jazz.  The band performs songs with a unique American sound and musical language.  This free concert kicks off the new Arts and Culture series and is sponsored by The Jacob G. Schmidlapp Trusts.
