Mark Your Calendars: Upcoming Events in Ft. Thomas

Just because the temperatures keep dropping, doesn't mean you have to be holed up inside. Fight the winter blues, and check out some of these upcoming events around town...

Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park Presents: Joan The Girl of Arc: January 25 - 2:30pm
The Ft. Thomas/Carrico Library is constantly hosting great programs and events for the community. "Based on the famous story of the young woman who helped save France, this powerful and dramatic world premiere adaptation starts with Joan as a young girl, just starting to examine her own beliefs. As she begins to understand herself and the world around her, she learns to inspire and lead others. Her journey remains resonant and relevant for today’s teens," said the library's website. Registration is required through the library's website

Once Upon a Mattress: Thursday, January 30 - 7:30pm; Friday, January 31 - 7:30pm; Saturday, February 1 - 7:30pm; Sunday, February 2 - 2pm.
Highland's Middle School's Theatre Department will be performing the musical comedy Once Upon a Mattress at Highlands High School's Performing Arts Center. This comedic adaptation of the classic tale, The Princess and the Pea, is fun for the whole family.  "Carried on a wave of wonderful songs, by turns hilarious and raucous, romantic and melodic, this rollicking spin on the familiar classic of royal courtship and comeuppance provides for some side-splitting shenanigans. Chances are you'll never look at fairy tales quite the same way again," said the FTIS website. The Highlands Theatre Department always has great theatrical performances, and this show is sure to keep you laughing. Tickets are $8 for students and $10 for adults. You can purchase your tickets at

Artscapade's Family Art Night: February 5 - 6:30pm
Artscapade will be hosting a Valentine's Day Woodgrams workshop for the whole family at Fort Thomas Coffee. For $10, you can "draw, watercolor and stamp an awesome wood gram for an extra special way to tell your sweetheart you love them!" Register for the event at

Village Players presents Almost, Maine: February 14-16; 20-22
The Village Players will be performing the romantic comedy Almost, Maine over two weekends in February. Almost, Maine is a great way to celebrate Valentine's Day without having to leave Ft. Thomas. Tickets are $15 each, and can be reserved by calling 859-392-0500.

Family Movie Night featuring Planes: February 16 - Doors open at 6:30pm
The Ft. Thomas Recreation Department will once again host a free family movie night with a screening of Planes at the Armory. Popcorn and drinks will be available to purchase at the event.

Arts & Culture Series: ArtsWave Presents Kentucky Symphony Orchestra Newport Ragtime Band: February 28 - 7:00pm
This special performance takes place at the Ft. Thomas/Carrico Library. According to the library's website, "The KSO formed the Newport Ragtime Band 15 years ago to explore the roots of America's popular music heritage. From the advent of ragtime, just before the turn of the century, through Blues, Dixieland and the early development of Jazz through the late 1920s, composers and musicians, created a unique American sound and musical language that can be traced to today's pop music." The event is free, but registration is required through the library's website.
