BLUE MARBLE BOOKS CREATES TEEN LEADERSHIP/LITERATURE
PANEL
Local children’s bookstore
establishes leadership roles for teenagers.
Blue Marble Books has created a teen leadership/literature panel as a way to further engage with the community, establish leadership roles for teenagers, and address and solve literacy issues within the local community.
The teen panel, who have had two
meetings so far, have decided to call themselves The Marble Society. As part of
the group they will read young adult books, write book reviews for customers,
interview and write talent spotlights on local authors and illustrators, and
volunteer at store events like this summer’s Where’s Waldo party and the
monthly Graeter’s Reading Corner. In addition, we will be setting up shelves in
the Great Teen Room for their favorite book selections.
Even though the group will have an adult
facilitator who will always be present at meetings and group events, the Marble
Society will be, as much as possible, self-leading. They will lead the meetings
and direct their focus to the activities and events with which they feel they
will be most helpful to the store and community.
Marble
Society members will receive benefits for their participation including:
discounts on books, getting to read books in advance of being published, and
getting to meet and talk with authors and illustrators.
