Superheroes Needed for 5K Run/Walk for Kids

Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 8:30 a.m.
Devou Park, Covington, Kentucky

Calling all Superheroes!!!   CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) for Kids of Kenton and Campbell Counties, Inc. is partnering with the Northern Kentucky Bar Association Young Lawyers Section and Woman Lawyers Section for the 2nd Annual 5K Run/Walk.  It will take place Saturday, April 12, 2014, at 8:30 a.m. at Devou Park.

This year CASA has decided to take on a Superhero theme, as the volunteers in our community that advocate for the abused and neglected children are true superheroes.  We hope to see many families attend dressed in their best superhero attire.  It is a truly family friendly event.  There will be fun activities for the kids and a “kids’ race” after the completion of the 5k.

CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates.  The CASA program is a volunteer based non-profit that advocates for the abused and neglected children that come through the Kenton and Campbell County Family Court System.  The children that our volunteers advocate for come from all different backgrounds and have been subjected to some of the most unfortunate and catastrophic situations.  The volunteers go above and beyond to meet with everyone involved with the children and submit a report to the Judge based on what is in the best interest of the children.

CASA for Kids currently has 51 volunteers advocating for over 125 children in Kenton and Campbell Counties.  The program has 15 Board Members and 3 Full-time staff members.  The CASA program relies heavily upon fundraisers, grant writing and individual giving since Kentucky is only 1 of 7 States that does not fund the local CASA programs.  As many non-profits know, fundraising is always a challenge.

The Northern Kentucky Bar Association Young Lawyers Section and Women Lawyers Section partnered with the program last year for the inaugural 5K Run/Walk and is doing so again this year.  Last year’s event was a wonderful success and we are hoping it will be even better this year.
If you are interested in sponsoring the event or participating, please contact Nicky Jeffries at 859-392-1791.  Registration forms for the run/walk are posted on the CASA For Kids website at
