TJ Maxx Opening Date Set

MANAGER AT THE 4TH ST STORE SAYS THAT LOCATION WILL CLOSE ON 5/10, REOPEN AT NEWPORT ON 5/15

T.J. Maxx is the latest retail tenant heading to Newport Pavilion.

Charlie Townsend, principal of Anchor Investment Partners LLC, told Cincinnati Business Courier he's very happy with the progress of the center since a group of local investors purchased the project in December 2011. Townsend also is the founder of real estate brokerage Anchor Associates, which handles leasing for Newport Pavilion.

"It's a true regional shopping center as opposed to just a good community shopping center," Townsend told me Friday at the ICSC Idea Exchange event in Columbus.

T.J. Maxx is currently under construction on the southwest corner of the development, next to the Dick's store.

In addition to landing another new tenant, Townsend said he plans to upgrade the amenities and look of Newport Pavilion.

"In today's shopping environment you've got to make it a little more enticing, provide a more pleasant shopping experience," Townsend said.

  1. I hope that the upgrade to the shopping experience starts with egress from the Chick-Fil-A area since that will also be the main access and egress for LaRosa's when Carothers is finished--not to mention the other retailers. The right turn to Carothers from the Chipotle parking lot won't alleviate traffic enough for turning left onto Pavilion Pkwy. The addition of the turn lane at the light has only somewhat helped.

  2. FTM: Have you guys done stories on how NP is being used as a main meeting point for heroin drop-offs?

  3. The confluence of Chesapeake Ave and Pavilion Pkwy needs a proper roundabout, incorporating ingress/egress from the BW3 and Dicks areas.

The current situation makes for a mad dash to get in/out of the BW3 and Dicks areas, and stack-ups during busy times due to influxes of traffic from Grand and Carothers.
