Fort Thomas among 13 NKY Cities Named "Safest in Kentucky"

NKU, in Highland Heights, which, along with Fort Thomas, was selected as one of KY's 50 safest cities/Safewise

Security system website Safewise published its picks for the 50 safest cities to live in the Commonwealth, and Fort Thomas made the list.

Of Fort Thomas, Safewise says:
In addition to being safe and secure, Fort Thomas has a sound educational system, Fort Thomas Independent Schools, which offers three elementary schools, a middle school, and Highlands High School. Not only are the city’s children well-educated, but adults are too: 43.5 percent of adults 25 or older hold bachelor’s degrees, which is well above the national average…
Safewise made its picks by analyzing FBI Crime Report data, taking measurements for both violent crime and property crime, and defined an eligible city as home to 3,000 people or more.

Fort Thomas reported .12 violent crimes per 1000 people, and 11.89 property crimes per 1000 people. The FBI Crime Report data studied was from 2012.

Other Northern Kentucky cities to make the list were

  • Villa Hills
  • Highland Heights
  • Independence
  • Taylor Mill
  • Edgewood
  • Fort Mitchell
  • Williamstown
  • Alexandria
  • Lakeside Park
  • Elsmere
  • Wilder
  • Erlanger
Of all the Northern Kentucky cities listed, Villa Hills had the lowest occurrence of both violent and property crimes. Fort Thomas had the second lowest statistics in both categories.

The article even included a shout out to FTM:
If you decide to call Fort Thomas home, Fort Thomas Matters is going to be a great resource to keep your eye on. In it, you can find information about loal businesses, happenings, and other information relevant to the city.
We couldn’t agree more. Check out the full list here.
