Thomas, William Washington III (born June 30, 1947)
Fort Thomas, Kentucky
We celebrate the life of Bill Thomas, loving husband of Sidney, father of Jennifer Alcala (Pablo), Katie Mills (Collier), and David Thomas (fiancée Sheila), Papa to Kaylee and Collier Thomas Mills and Claire Alcala, brother of Susan Kirby (Alan) and Alan Thomas (Dianne), cousin of Bert Thomas (Diane) and nephew of Evelyn Thomas Moebus.
Bill graduated from Transylvania University and has enjoyed the friendship of his extended fraternity family, Delta Sigma Phi.
Bill had many passions in his life. He was an avid gardener, particularly proud late in his life of his new garden he planted at his home, which was constructed and lived in by the artist and writer Harlan Hubbard. He was co-founder of the Fort Thomas Forest Conservancy with his cousin Bert, and vice-president of the Fort Thomas Tree Commission. He proposed, laid out and constructed the Fort Thomas Landmark Tree Trail and started the Fort Thomas Garden Tour.
Bill parlayed his love and talent for writing into a second career as a publisher of a monthly newspaper covering Fort Thomas and other areas in northern Kentucky. Articles showcased the activities and achievements of local citizens and students with occasional lengthy articles covering local history. He authored two books on the history of Fort Thomas and one on the history of Highlands High School football.
Sports and coaching played a big part in Bill's life. Coaching his children early on provided a steppingstone to his trailblazing involvement coaching girls' soccer in northern Kentucky, at Highlands High School and through the Select Soccer organization.
Fort Thomas and Highlands High School were always near and dear to Bill's heart. Bill served as president of the Highlands High School Alumni Association, introduced the annual Alumni Association Awards Banquet, and was selected Highlands High School "Alumnus of the Year" in 2013.
Bill found great enjoyment exploring Leelanau County, Michigan while vacationing during summers in this beautiful area.
We would like to acknowledge the kind and compassionate care provided by Hospice of the Bluegrass.
Bill will be greatly missed by all of those whose lives he touched. He will especially be missed by his devoted golden retriever Tommy.
Rest in Peace, Bill. We love you.
