Newport Stadium hosting annual Campbell County Junior Olympics

Teams from several different Northern Kentucky towns will be competing in track and field events in August.

Newport Stadium will be hosting the annual Campbell County Junior Olympics track meet on August 3.

Boys and girls ages five to 18 are invited to participate in the event.

The event will include races of 50, 100 and 200 meters for ages five to 10; and 100, 200, 400, 800 and the mile for ages 11 to 18.

The meet will also include relays, high jump, long jump, shot put and turbo javelin throw.

Medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in all age classes.

The teams that will be competing will be from Fort Thomas, Newport, Bellevue and Campbell County.

The Fort Thomas team will be coached by Keith Thompson; Newport by Jerry Hatfield; and Bellevue by Marty Mayer. The Campbell County coach has not been announced yet.

The Fort Thomas team will hold practices at Tower Park, July 21 through August 1 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The track meet will begin at 4 p.m. on August 3. Participation is free.
