Mama on a Budget: Summer is Almost Over

Third time makes a tradition, I think, which means this is now the traditional end-of-summer “staycation” ideas article.  It is officially August (despite it feeling like late September) which means that summer is nearly over.   However, you can still cram a lot in to the remaining fourteen days.  Last year’s French themed-article only gave you one day of fun.  This year I am more ambitious; two weeks of forced fun!  You have 14 days to squeeze in summer so don’t waste a minute.  Now for one of Mama-on-a-Budget’s famous lists:

August 1st- First Friday in Bellevue is happening tonight. Their theme is (coincidentally or am I just that good!) “Staycation”. Extremely fitting if you aske me. You have a chance to win a one night stay at the Bellevue Weller Haus Bed and breakfast

August 2nd-  Fort Thomas Animal Hospital 1st Annual Dog Days of Summer DOG WASH is today from 1-4pm. All Proceeds go to their Save-A-Pet Rescue Fund.

August 3rd-  Go on over to Washington Park in Cincinnati today for LumenoCity Village. There will be local bands, artists and craftspeople, a tie-dye booth for kids, an instrument “petting zoo,” Shaker craftspeople making musical instruments, unique gifts, some created specifically for Lumenocity, and local food.Musical performances will be held in the Washington Park gazebo. Cincinnati Art Museum also will hold an Interactive Art Project in the Village each day at times to be determined. It starts at 1pm and goes all day.
LumenoCity
August 4th- Lets go shopping today. Head over to Fort Thomas Central they have a new clothing line out.  "Let's Get Lost" Fall/Winter 2014/15 by Mary Helen Clothing has arrived! So adorable and the color palette is amazing!! Sizes 2T-12

August 5th- Im going to let everyone rest today or what I tell my kids “No fun day” Because some days you need to do the boring stuff to catch up on life.

August 6th- Tell your friends, family, co-workers and neighbors to stop by Buckhead Mountain Grill anytime today and they can help give back to Charities Guild of Northern Kentucky, 20% of your check will be donated Charities Guild of Northern Kentucky!

August 7th- Stop down to Newport on the Levee for the first night of the Glier’s Goettafest.  Nothing like a little German-inspired oatmeal-based sausage to scream successful summer.

August 8th -Late Night Swim is happening at the Fort Thomas Swim Club.  Members are free (guest fees apply). The pool will stay open until 11pm.

August 9th- Today is Saturday so can we just rest today? I’m sure the kids won’t mind.  Or, heck, school supply shopping would be a good idea and since you didn’t read your child even one single book this summer (hey, Divergent was a book first, right?), maybe stop by Fort Thomas Central and buy the other half of that Parent-Teacher conference duo a bribe gift.

August 10th- Today is the Last day to enter into Gallery to Go’s Chalk Art Contest. So hurry up and snap some photos of your children’s art and make sure you enter to win a Paint Party for you and 4 friends.

August 11th-  You are in the final stretch you need to recharge and grab some coffee at Fort Thomas Coffee. In fact I would just buy their pound of coffee you will need it in just a short few days.

August 12th-  Head on up to Tower Park for their summer entertainment Series. Diamond Head Mountain will begin playing at 7pm.  Refreshments will be for sale as well.

August 13th- OK if you didn’t do it on August 9th, now you really need to go school shopping.   I know you have walked in Target every day since August 1 and have bought everything under the sun EXCEPT school supplies but it’s time to fill up the cart! School starts tomorrow!

Whew! Hopefully you finished your summer with a bang.  Check back here in a couple weeks for my how-to guide on enjoying your first few kid-free days of the new school year, or as I like to call it: Parent-Summer.   Oh, nothing like those lazy days of Parent-Summer
Success
