G. Michael Graham Talks About Life Changing Decision to Lose Weight, Fix Finances

Find out more about Advocare Thursday at 7:00 at Highland Park.

There comes that moment in your life when you look in the mirror and say something like, “Man. I am so out of shape.”

By no means was I ever huge. But I was still not eating the right way or exercising consistently. Family members like my sister and parents had been encouraging it for a while.

Meanwhile, I constantly saw the Facebook posts. Friends I had known for years had success doing this company called Advocare. It stands for Advocates who Care. Formed in 1993, Advocare has long specialized in helping Americans in two crucial areas.

Health and finances.

I long contemplated making the move to know more about it until finally in December of last year, I called my friend in Dayton from college, Karen. We had a good chat and I learned more about the company from her.

After a few months went by, I took my now-wife Katie to meet Karen and a few other friends. We loved what we heard. She loved how our friend explained things to us with no pressure. Katie liked it because the process is gluten and dairy-free.

That is when Katie, myself and my now mother-in-law decided to take Advocare’s 24-Day challenge. You do that in conjunction with eating healthy foods from fish to oatmeal. You also drink a lot of water, which was hard for me because I grew up a huge milk drinker.

Now, looking back at the last two months, the results of the lifestyle change have been amazing. Katie and I have lost a combined 41 pounds and we feel great. I no longer have those late-night cravings and I’m so focused at work that it is unbelievable. We’ve also helped my mother-in-law lose about 10 pounds and another friend lose 12 pounds.

In addition to the results, there are other things that attracted me to Advocare as well.

1. Advocare has a Scientific and Medical Advisory Board that has more than 200 years of experience in toxicology, sports performance, pharmacology and pediatrics. This includes Dr. Stanley Dudrick, who invented the feeding tube.

2. Nearly 50 of the products have been tested by a third-party company called Informed-Choice for banned substances making them safe so pro athletes use them. The list includes national spokesperson and New Orleans Super Bowl-winning quarterback Drew Brees, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton and kicker Mike Nugent as well as singer Carrie Underwood’s husband, Nashville Predator forward Mike Fisher from the National Hockey League.

But most importantly, founder Charlie Ragus developed a great set of 10 core values. The main one that stands out to me is, “Honor God through faith, family and friends.” This company emphasizes not pressuring people.

That is just our story. People join it for different reasons. You might be a personal trainer looking to help your clients or you might be an average or hard-core runner looking to add muscle or recover quickly. There’s something for everyone in the business.

Whatever it is, I am so passionate about the results that I want to help others. That’s the greatest joy of life.

I could talk all day about this great company, but the best thing to do is come learn more about it Thursday. Katie, myself and other friends are doing a mixer on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Highland Park located near Moyer Elementary. If you can’t make it but want more information, you may email the site and we’ll get it to you.

Here’s hoping to see you then. This could be a huge difference in your life.
