Highlands High School will establish an Athletic Hall of Fame to recognize and honor former athletes, coaches and teams who achieved outstanding accomplishments or made extraordinary contributions to athletics at Highlands.
“I believe many people in the Highlands community are excited about the formation of the new Highlands High School Athletic Hall of Fame,” athletic director Dale Mueller said. “As our mission states, we hope to recognize past individuals with exceptional achievement and inspire current students.”
A maximum of five players and/or coaches will be inducted each year. Nominations for the first class of inductees will be accepted through March 2015.
Names of the first inductees will be announced the end of May, and a reception and induction ceremony will be held in September. Specific dates are still to be determined.
“Highlands High School is fortunate to have an incredibly rich history of excellence,” said principal Brian Robinson. “The successes of our programs in the present, both in academics and in extra-curricular endeavors, have in a great way been made possible by individuals who did extraordinary things in the past. Our committee did a fantastic job ensuring our hall of fame will honor those individuals and inspire our current and future students to do great things as well. We are very excited to induct our first class.”
“Having an Athletic Hall of Fame created at Highlands High School to honor those who have set the bar for athletic excellence is certainly exciting,” said Brad Fennell, Fort Thomas Board of Education vice-chairperson. “I am very proud to serve on the HHS Hall of Fame Committee to help lay the foundation that will finally recognize our many distinguished athletes and showcase their outstanding accomplishments.”
Specific instructions and criteria for nominees can be found in the application packet available on the District’s website, or by contacting the Highlands High School Athletic Department at 859-815-2608.
