The U.S. Department of Education has named Johnson Elementary School a 2014 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. This year, Johnson Elementary is only one of four schools in the state of Kentucky to receive this esteemed designation.
This marks Johnson Elementary's second time receiving the award.

The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognizes public and private elementary, middle and high schools based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. Every year the U.S. Department of Education seeks and celebrates great American schools, schools demonstrating that all students can achieve at high levels.

“It is quite an honor for Robert D. Johnson Elementary to be named a National Blue Ribbon School for the second time. At Johnson, we are educating tomorrow’s leaders, and we take that job very seriously.  It feels wonderful to have our dedication recognized locally and nationally,” said Tonya Brummer, principal. “We are extremely proud to accept this award."

Superintendent Gene Kirchner stated, “Very few schools across the country have been named National Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence. The fact that Robert D. Johnson Elementary has now achieved this distinction twice is absolutely incredible. It is a testimony to the hard work of our students, staff and parents and serves as a proud moment for the entire Fort Thomas community.”

Brummer, along with a teacher representative, will accept the award at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. on November 10-11, 2014.
