Mama on a Budget: Johnson Hullabaloo

Knox: “Is this going to be a fun festival or one of those boring ones?”

(Boring festivals?  Who is this kid?  OK, so maybe we shouldn’t have taken him to the annual Quilters festival held in Paducah but other than that, what more could a boy of four ask for than a festival?)

Me: “This will be a really fun festival with bouncy houses and games and prizes.  Your dad went to this festival when he was little and he loved it”

Knox: “Dad likes a lot of boring things.”

As you can see, my kids are really into festivals and it’s around this time of year that a lot of the seasonal ones occur.  Tomorrow (October 4th) from10-5pm, Johnson Elementary School will be putting on their annual Hullaballoo Festival.

All proceeds from this fundraiser benefit the students and go toward the purchase of items not included in the annual school budget such as: SmartBoardsTM , SuccessMakerTM software, technology and facility updates and enrichment programs, like Art in Motion and Red Ribbon Week. They will have lots of activities for kids such as bounce houses (the fun stuff according to Knox) and Craft Boutiques (Boring stuff, assumedly) and lots more.

The "Boring" stuff:

The Hullabaloo hopes to have a broad selection of items — everything from bicycles, skateboards, golf clubs, fishing equipment, tennis racquets, ice skates, jogging strollers, exercise equipment, goals, ski gear or sleds to shin guards, cleats, basketball high-tops, tap or ballet shoes, football pads and soccer shorts.

Calling all shoppers, bakers and candy makers!  The Hullabaloo is in need of baked goods for the Hullabaloo Bake Sale and Cake Walk.  Wrapped homemade or store bought cakes, cupcakes, breads, muffins, candies, cookies, pies and more can be dropped off in the Johnson gym today October 3rd.

Back by popular demand! Throughout the summer, crafting volunteers have been preparing for another amazing Boutique.  Stop by anytime on Saturday in the gym and buy gifts for yourself or plan ahead for the holidays.
