7th Annual USO Dance at the Ft. Thomas Community Center
The Ft. Thomas Renaissance Board and the Ft. Thomas Military & Community Museum are hosting their 7th Annual USO Dance at the Ft. Thomas Community Center on Friday, November 7, 2014 at 7 pm. The USO Dance is open to the public and hopes to see any and all Veterans and their family and friends. In attendance will be ninety veterans from the Fort Thomas VA Hospital as well as several from the Cincinnati VA Hospital, all of whom will be honored along with any other veterans in attendance from all branches of the United States Armed Forces.
The event is a catered affair with catering by Prestige; the meal will consist of roast beef or boneless pork with all the sides. Chaplain Bohanan will commence the evening with a prayer and a song written in honor of the attending veterans. Jill Fessler will sing the Star Spangled Banner. The rest of the evening will feature music by The Avenues, third year performing.
Each veteran will also be sent home to the VA Hospital with a gift bag including various sundries. Additionally, they will get a photograph in a decorated area for veterans. The evening happens thanks to the work of a large contingency of volunteers who help set up, serve the meals to the Veterans who are in wheelchairs, dance with the veterans and help with the door prize drawing. Each veteran receives a door prize ticket and the giveaways are donated items.
Since there is no cost to the VA Hospital Veterans, they are seeking sponsors to help cover the costs for each Veteran which is $10.00 each. The Renaissance Board hopes that many in the community will help fund this awesome event and provide an evening filled with fun and entertainment to those who served our country (and their dates, significant others, family, and friends). In addition to monetary donations, items for the door prize giveaway are also needed.
