As I walked in, I was greeted by Tami Root, the owner who is a Fort Thomas native, two-time winner of Best Esthetician in the City by Cincinnati Magazine and has 25 years of experience. I shredded my winter gear and took a seat. After some chitchat, she placed my rings in ring cleaner, what I thought was a very nice special touch. Next, my hands were dipped in warm paraffin for a paraffin hand treatment. She then placed my hands in over-sized mittens. She used a massage tool to massage my upper back and shoulders while the paraffin did its job. One of my favorite artists - Pink Floyd - was playing as I enjoyed the pampering. As if I wasn't relaxed enough, after the hand treatment, we moved to another room for my facial.

I changed in to a comfortable robe and slipped under the covers on the table while listening to the comforting sounds of the ocean. She began by cleaning and analyzing my skin. Since I will be turning 40 in less than a month, and mentioned that if I could change anything about my skin it would be the wrinkles and age spots, Tami chose the anti aging facial for me. I was so relaxed as she put different product on my face and gently massaged it that I almost fell asleep. She rubbed hot stones over my face, which felt absolutely amazing. The face mask made of yogurt smelled fantastic.
While letting the mask do it's work, she started on my feet and legs. She basically did the paraffin treatment to my feet and gently massaged my legs. She placed my feet in heated slippers to allow the paraffin to work. She then removed my face mask and applied toner and moisturizer. We ended my spa day with her cleaning up my eyebrows with tweezers, which was a nice finishing touch. My hands, feet, legs and face felt amazing - extra moisturized and relaxed. And to top it off, my rings were sparkling.
A facial is one of the best ways to take care of your skin, especially when it's given by an experienced esthetician like Tami. A facial cleans, exfoliates and nourishes the skin, promoting a clear, well-hydrated complexion, and can help your skin look younger.
Nine Highland Avenue isn't Studio Root's first location. The studio was opened on North Fort Thomas Ave. from 2007-20012, which Tami says "was wildly successful." That studio also offered manicures and pedicures which irritated her arthritis. She decided to close, focus on her health and reopen this fall as a skin care studio.
Studio Root offers facials, body skin care and waxing for all body parts in a relaxing atmosphere. Prices vary from $20 to $75 depending on the service. Services are often customized since no two clients are alike. The studio is open daily from 9-5 but by appointment only (doors will be locked when a client is receiving services). Appointments can be made by calling 859-441-6500. Customers will receive 20 percent off their first service until December 20.
The studio will be open on Saturday, Nov. 29, Small Business Saturday, from 9 a.m. to noon. People can stop by to check the studio out and purchase gift certificates for 20% off. You will be able to buy a $100 gift certificate for $80 or a $50 gift card for $40. The gift certificate special will be offered until December 20 but the certificates can be used long after the 20th. Gift certificates to Studio Root as gifts for the female, and even the men, in your life is a no brainer! I hope my husband, parents, children and friends are reading this because I could never have enough gift certificates to Studio Root.
