Fort Thomas Police Issue Alert for Scam Targeting the Elderly

Fort Thomas Police have issued an alert involving a scam targeting older people in Fort Thomas/FTM file

Fort Thomas Police are currently investigating a scam targeting the elderly. FTPD have received a complaint from two Fort Thomas residents about the scam.

The scam involves the suspect targeting elderly victims, telling them they are entitled to millions of dollars, but that the company they claim to work for needs money up front to start the process. When the victims explain they cannot get to their bank because of their age, a taxi cab company is dispatched to their residence, police say.

According to Lt. Rich Whitford, at least 10 taxis have been sent to potential victims.

Whitford says FTPD is working with cab companies in an attempt to identify those who place the original calls for taxi service on behalf of the victims.

Whitford also says that this scam is new to the Fort Thomas area, but has been hitting other communities nationwide for some time.

Anyone with any information should call Lt. Rich Whitford, at 859-572-1228.
