Earlier this month, the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety recognized law enforcement officers all across the state for aggressive targeting of impaired drivers. Fort Thomas's own Officer Derek Faught was among those nominated for recognition.
While Faught was not one of the award winners, he was nominated for making 19 DUI arrests for FTPD last year.
Faught was the only officer nominated.
According to a report by the River City News, 21 Northern Kentucky officers were nominated, yielding three award winners, one from Campbell County PD, one from Boone County PD, and one from Covington PD.
The KOHS reports that, in 2013, more than 5,500 alcohol-related traffic accidents were reported, resulting in 138 deaths and over 3,000 injuries. The holidays, according to officials, are a particularly dangerous time to be on the road, with more than 400 of those crashes reported in the month of December.
