The Blue Marble Just Received a Wonderful Holiday Gift
Blue Marble Books has just received a wonderful holiday gift from a nationally bestselling author.
James Patterson, bestselling author of adult, teen, and children's fiction, has included the Fort Thomas bookshop in what has become nearly a year-long campaign to invest in indie booksellers.
According to Publisher's Weekly, Patterson announced back in February his plan to provide $1 million in grants to independent booksellers, releasing the grants in phases throughout 2014. The Blue Marble's inclusion comes in the third and final round.
With this final round of donations, Patterson has provided 178 stores with a combined total of $1,008,300, the report said.
The third round alone accounted for nearly half of the donations' amount, when Patterson sent out $473,000 to 81 bookstores Monday morning.
Thank you, Mr. Patterson and thank you to our customers!" the Blue Marble said in a statement on Facebook Monday morning. "We are so grateful to have a wonderful community of book buyers and indie bookseller supporters!"
“Here’s to a joyful holiday season for booksellers everywhere,” said Patterson in a news release. “Here’s to more parents and grandparents coming to their senses and giving their kids books—yes, books—for Christmas and other holidays. Here’s to local governments waking up to the fact that bookstores and libraries are essential to our way of life.”
FTM would like to offer our congratulations to Blue Marble Books for this gift, one they very much deserve.
