Uber to donate portion of NYE fares nationwide to Mothers Against Drunk Driving

Uber expects to have one of its busiest days of the year on New Year's Eve, and it is taking advantage of the business to benefit an important organization.

This New Year’s Eve, between 6 p.m. on Dec. 31 and 6 a.m. on Jan. 1, Uber will donate $1 of every ride nationwide to Mothers Against Drunk Driving when users enter the promo code MADDNYE.

In addition to providing access to safe and reliable rides this New Year's Eve, Uber officials said they also want Uber users to be aware of their dynamic pricing model, commonly known as “surge.”

Uber officials said it is their goal to be the most reliable ride on the road and sometimes we see such high demand that the number of available cars gets tight. During this time, surge pricing will automatically go into effect to encourage more drivers to get out on the road. As demand goes down and more cars free up, the rates will go back to normal.

Follow these tips to get around New Year’s Eve during times of peak demand:
  • No surprises when you estimate your fare. Uber will always notify you in BIG, BOLD print if surge pricing is in effect and ask you to manually type in the higher multiple before you can request a ride.
  • Enter your drop off location and tap “Fare Quote” to get an estimate of the cost of your ride.
  • Get notified when surge drops. What goes up must come down and you’ll always be in the know with Surge Drop. Here’s how it works:
1.     Tap the “NOTIFY ME IF SURGE ENDS” button.
2.     Confirm you’d like us to send you a Push Notification if surge drops.
3.     Stick around or start saying your goodbyes; the choice is yours.
