Police are still searching for what they think was the driver.
Newport Police say it appears, from surveillance footage, that the car hit the curb while traveling north on Monmouth at about 9:30 PM New Year's Eve. The car then likely hit a pole, crossed all four lanes of the road and slammed into the concrete wall in the parking lot of Penn Station.
Because the car looked like it was parked, it was hours before anyone became suspicious. Early Thursday morning, someone realized a person had died in the car. Police say it was a passenger and the driver left the scene. Police say the passenger was a 36-year-old man from Anderson Township. They have not released his name.
