Fort Thomas Ranked No. 1 Safest City in Kentucky

Fort Thomas has been ranked the safest city in Kentucky./FTM file

Fort Thomas has once again made Movoto's Top 10 list of safest cities in Kentucky. This is the second consecutive year our city has made this list, along with several others similar lists published each year.

This year, though, we ranked at the top.

The rankings are based on four basic categories of safety and crime, derived from the FBI's most recent annual Uniform Crime Report. Movoto used murders, violent crimes, property crime, and total crime as the four metrics for ranking a city's safety. Only city's with a population of 10,000 or more were ranked.

The report found that Fort Thomas, among every other city, had the lowest number of violent crimes per person. In fact, in 2013 -- the year from which the most recent data was collected -- Fort Thomas only had nine violent crimes total, none of which were murders.

Fort Thomas also had just 194 property crimes that year, giving it the third lowest number of property crimes and total crimes in 2013.

Movoto had this to say:
Congratulations to Fort Thomas, not only for making the list twice in a row, but for bumping it up to first place this year (from its second place ranking last year.) The reason for its No. 1 spot is simple: it ranked well in all of our categories.
Of the other top 10, Independence was the only other Northern Kentucky city to rank.
