NCC inducts 15th Class Into Athletic Hall of Fame

Newport Central Catholic High School announced its 15th class of inductees into its Athletic Hall of Fame.

The inductees were: Jayme Thiem '05, Jeff Brauley '83, Scott Wiggins '94, Amy Meyers '01, Don Plummer '59, and Jim Wissman '53.

Also being honored as the "Teams of Distinction" are the 1999, 2000, and 2001 State Champion Softball Teams.


The induction ceremony for the newest class of hall-of-famers will occur on Saturday, February 21 in the NCC Gymnasium.

The evening will begin with a social hour at 6 p.m. followed by dinner and the induction ceremony at 7 p.m.

The cost of the event is $25 and reservations and payment will be accepted prior to February 13 in the form of cash, check or credit card.

NCC will be awarding the Coach Jim Connor Award to Jeff Schulkens '85 .

School officials said the Coach Jim Connor Award is an award being given to Schulkens for exemplifying the ideals and traditions of NCC and for the excellence he has achieved in his work and his personal life.

In addition, the Fr. John Hegenauer Community Service Award will be given to Dave Schneider '83, for his commitment to NCC and to the family values NCC strives to impart to its students.

All proceeds from the event directly support the athletic programs at Newport Central Catholic.

The Hall of Fame inaugurated its first class in the 2001 induction ceremony. Since that time, a new class of inductees, award recipients, and teams of distinction have been honored every February at the Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
