Petition Calls for Firing Collinsworth as Commentator

A petition is circulating around the crowd-sourced activism website Change.org, calling for NBC to fire Cris Collinsworth.

The petition, which was posted Sunday, has received over 8,000 supporters as of this writing. Here is the petition's call-to-action:
We the Fans of the NFL, are fed up with Chris (sic) Collinsworth's bias, annoying, self-centered announcing style. Many viewers turns (sic) down the volume on their TV's to avoid having to listen to him. You are losing viewers because of him, and it will get worst (sic). We want him removed, so listening to a game will be enjoyable, instead of annoying!
The petition's poor grammar and spelling aside, the target goal of signatures is 10,000, which, for a petition that should carry a national appeal, seems like a paltry amount. NBC Sports, Collinsworth's home network, is one of the most widely-viewed sports networks in the nation, and has set a number of viewership records.

The petition is also curious given Collinsworth's award-winning career, having won five Emmy awards for his commentating over the last 15 years.

What do you think? Do you enjoy Collinsworth's commentating style on Sunday nights, or would you like to see a change? Weigh in on Facebook or Twitter!

  3. I actually like Cris and it's obvious that he does his homework and knows the players well. He sees things happening in a play that I completely miss. Yes, he does fix on a single player and shower him with praise way too often, but fire him? No.

  4. Totally agree w/the Petition! He is the most arrogant, smug and self-centered announcer I've ever listened to. I avoid Sunday Night Football or, at best, watch with the sound down just because I can't stand listening to him drone on and on. He's negative, self-serving and a total detriment to Sunday Night Football! Good riddance to bad rubbish! I hope the Petition gets noticed!

    1. He is one of the nicest and most humble people you could ever have the pleasure of meeting and is an awesome sports commentator.

    2. I have met him, incidentally. He and his family go to our church. Thanks for your comment tho. Perhaps I just know a different side of him. "Nice" and [especially] "humble" are not necessary words that come to mind. And neither is "awesome sports commentator". Evidently there are at least 8k who agree with me on that!

  5. I think Cris is awesome at what he does. He is also a very kind person. To me, this sounds like it might be pure jealousy.

  6. He is completely awful. So is Simms and Nantz.

  7. Chris is awesome. I would elect him to be our new head coach for the Bengals. Maybe he could put some fire under their ass to win a damn playoff game. And play for the love of the game at a different level.

  8. WOW, sounds like there are some people who have way to much time of their hands. Chris is a great guy with more knowledge about foot- ball than the people starting this petition.

  9. I'm sorry but I agree with most of what the petition has to say. I am excited when my team plays on Sunday Night Football. I look forward to it all week. Cris ruins the experience for me. There have been many times I wanted to cut his voice out. He irritates me. Cris and Skip Bayless need to find new jobs.

  10. Also, how much football do you actually watch on tv and listen to on the radio. Cris has a long way to go. He knows alittle football BC he played in the NFL. And also how do you know he is a humble /kind person? Have you met him personally? He is no match alongside the great announcers. I can now remember watching some SNF games being so irritated by his voice I wanted to throw something at my tv.
