"Really it just came down to how much a typical shopper would buy furniture versus how often they'd buy clothing," said Lien. "We've had a really good response at our other Marketplace stores that underwent similar changes."
Clearance sales have been going on for the past few weeks as they make way for the store layout changes, which has a target date to be completed by mid-May.
Kroger is the parent company of retail superstore, Fred Meyer, which has most of their stores on the West Coast. Many of the those stores have food, grocery and household items. "Because of our connection with Fred Meyer we have a wide selection that we can chose our clothing items from," said Lein. "We will be able to select the best of the best, the most popular items that do well at our other clothing stores and be able to stay on trend."
Some of the biggest brands that will be offered are Carhartt, Levi Strauss, and Fila.
Many local area Kroger Marketplace stores have already gone through this change. Lein said that shoppers have responded well to the changes.
