Highlands Middle School Named Best in State

Highlands Middle School was named best in the state by

Best Public Middle Schools ranks 19,710 middle schools based on key student statistics and 4.6 million opinions from 280,000 students and parents. A high ranking indicates that the school is an exceptional academic institution with a diverse set of high-achieving students and faculty, and the students are very happy with their experiences.

Principal Mark Goetz said, “This is quite an honor, and it says a lot about the job our elementary schools do as well as the work ethic of our students and staff members. We have many advantages that allow us to provide a world-class education to our students including involvement from our parents, the investment made by the Fort Thomas Education Foundation and the Highlands Middle School PTSO and the support and commitment of resources by the Board of Education.”

Superintendent Gene Kirchner stated, “It is very gratifying to know that Highlands Middle School has been recognized as Kentucky's best. It is a direct reflection of the culture of high expectations that exist within the Fort Thomas community. Our students and staff at HMS exemplify our commitment to the pursuit of excellence.”An additional 3,981 schools received a grade but were not eligible for ranking.

72% of the students are proficient in math and/or reading at Highlands.
