Laber earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in elementary education as well as her doctorate in educational leadership from Northern Kentucky University.
Prior to joining the administrative team at Fort Thomas Independent Schools, Laber was an elementary teacher at Ockerman Elementary for 12 years; she then served four years as an instructional coach and curriculum consultant with Boone County Schools.
Members of the Moyer Site-Based Decision-Making Council were very impressed with Laber. Council member and parent Jill Kempf stated, “The council is very pleased with the selection of Dr. Laber. With her elementary background and experience, we feel that she will be an outstanding leader who will go above and beyond with staff and students to achieve every goal set at the elementary level. She will bring a loving, friendly and exciting learning atmosphere to Moyer.”
Superintendent Gene Kirchner stated, “We are incredibly excited to announce that Dr. Dawn Laber will be the next principal at Moyer Elementary. She is a dynamic instructional leader with a proven track record within the Fort Thomas Independent School District, and I am confident that Moyer will soar to new heights under her leadership. I would also thank each of the SBDM council members whose dedication and commitment to obtaining the best principal for their school was clearly evident throughout the entire selection process.”
“I am thrilled and extremely honored about the opportunity to continue the tradition of excellence at Moyer Elementary," said Laber. “I am acutely aware that this level of excellence requires a strong working relationship between school and home. I look forward to fostering these relationships and working with the faculty to provide a world-class educational experience for every student at Moyer Elementary. I want to thank the Site-Based Decision-Making Council and the Board of Education for giving me the opportunity to lead such an amazing school.”
Laber and her husband Jeff, live in Cold Spring, Kentucky, with their two children; son Liam, 2, and daughter Everly, 20 months. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family.
Laber succeeds Principal Matthew Haskamp who accepted a position as assistant principal/athletic director at Highlands High School.
