Art Around Towne Fort Thomas

Art Around Towne Starts Next Friday and Will Continue Every Third Friday; Coincides with Fort Thomas Central's 2-Year Anniversary

By Jenn Bianchi

The creative voice, it’s something we all have.  We’ll lose it, find it, scold it, mold it, pray for it, rationalize our marginalization of it, and for some, we even try to silence it.  It’s the star on the proverbial Christmas tree that can be plugged in when appropriate, unplugged when not, and stored in a box until its next rightful occasion, but gosh darn it, it’s still there.  For those who choose to tune in, and maybe even give it a mic, it becomes the best source of guidance.  It charges us to be better and imagine a place that is more than just the sum of its parts.

Barb Thomas is one of those who may have found a way to give the creative voices of Fort Thomas a mic.  In the three years since she moved here from South Carolina she has opened up her own gift shop, Fort Thomas Central, and even started a summer artisan market.  Throughout those few years she worked with two things in mind, her community & the local artists.

Within days of each other, Barb Thomas will have much to celebrate, the two year anniversary of Fort Thomas Central (June 15th) & the first annual Art Around Towne (June 19th).  In one year the artisan market has nearly doubled in size.  With the help of its committee, the renamed Art Around Towne, will host nearly 25 local businesses and highlight our local artists.

The Art Around Towne committee really teed this up to be an experience for everyone.  Marty’s waffle truck will be a returning vendor from last year’s artisan market.

Waffles not your jam?  That’s fine, maybe a Matador pizza from 15 North pair with a hipster beer is!  On your way down to Fort Thomas Coffee to work on a father’s day craft you should swing by the clock tower for a beer from Braxton Brewing Co. or wine from Stonebrook Winery.  Balloons will be placed along the route along with some local community members serving as ambassadors at each business to answer questions.

Don’t forget to mark your calendar for every third Friday of the month.  The Art Around Towne art walks will take place on June 19th, July 17th, August 21st, & September 18th from 6 to 9 p.m.  Just pack up your car or stroller and make your way down to the towne center once a month to the family friendly event with music, food, & art!  Admission is free but don’t forget to share the love with some of the local artists, without them this would not be possible!
