The Johnson Elementary School School-Based Decision Making Council (SBDMC) has selected Jamee Flaherty as principal of Johnson Elementary School. Flaherty is currently employed by Beechwood Independent Schools, where she had served as the elementary principal for seven years before moving to her current position of director of curriculum.

Flaherty was previously employed by Fort Thomas Independent Schools as an elementary teacher at Johnson Elementary School, a position she held for six years before moving into the position of elementary principal at Beechwood Independent Schools. Past educational experience also includes four years as an elementary teacher with Fayette County Public Schools.

Flaherty earned her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of Kentucky and her master’s degree and Rank I in Instructional Leadership from Northern Kentucky University.

Members of the Johnson SBDMC were very excited to welcome Flaherty back to Johnson Elementary. Council member and parent Dusty Porter stated, “We are proud to welcome Jamee Flaherty back to Johnson Elementary School! Jamee's resume speaks for itself. She is an accomplished teacher, an esteemed principal and a collaborative leader throughout her career. We are truly fortunate to find someone of this caliber to lead our school into the future for years to come.”

Superintendent Gene Kirchner stated, “We are very excited to welcome Jamee Flaherty back to Fort Thomas Independent Schools as the next principal of Johnson Elementary School.  Her proven success as an instructional leader coupled with her experience as a classroom teacher in our district make her the obvious choice to lead Johnson Elementary. I also thank each of the Johnson SBDM council members for their dedication and commitment to obtaining the best principal for their school.”

“I am extremely honored to have the opportunity to serve as principal of Johnson Elementary and am looking forward to returning to the district,” said Flaherty. “I am excited to collaborate with the students, parents, faculty and staff to keep the school on a path of continuous improvement.”

An introduction reception for Johnson Elementary parents and community members will be held on Monday, June 8, from 3:30-5:30 p.m. in the library.

Flaherty will begin serving as principal on July 1, 2015.
