Highlands High School Sinfonia presents “Pops in the Park”

The Highlands High School Sinfonia will perform a “Pops in the Park” concert Sept 12 at the Fort Thomas Amphitheatre. The sinfonia includes students in grades 9 through 12 who play violin, cello or bass and is conducted by Kathy Anderson, Highlands strings teacher.

Anderson has been named a quarterfinalist for the Music Educator Award presented by the GRAMMY Foundation. Only 213 quarterfinalists were selected from an initial nomination pool of more than 4,500. The GRAMMY Foundation will announce semifinalists in September.

“Kathy has implemented and developed a strings program in our district that is now recognized as including one of the premier high school sinfonias in the area,” said Superintendent Gene Kirchner.
“The quality of our strings program is truly impressive and a testament to her talent and dedication.”

"Pops in the Park" will be the final summer concert series before Merchants and Music on September 26.

Concessions will be available during the concert, and all proceeds will help defray costs of the sinfonia’s fall trip to Ontario, Canada.
