Merchants and Music to Add Beer Garden, New Varieties

FTM file.
The 12th annual Merchants and Music event has evolved from it's early stages in the Central Business District.

This is the fourth year the event will take place near the amphitheater in Tower Park and adding new features to the event this year is no exception, including a beer garden that will feature special tappings every hour on the hour from West Sixth Brewery.

"The beer garden will be yet another place to relax and enjoy local music, beer and food.  West Sixth will once again bring their one of a kind beer bike to the festival along with plenty of german beer tables from their tap room.  It will truly have the feel of an Oktoberfest tent and should also help alleviate some crowd congestion," said Brian Sand, Fort Thomas Renaissance Board Chairman.

Sand said that until now, these beers have only been available in their tap room.

"We cannot wait for our second year partnering with the Merchants and Music festival. We have been working with the Fort Thomas Renaissance Board to improve the festival goers experience from a beer perspective and help this event grow.  We have a great festival beer to offer this year in the Kolsch, a light lager and will have special tappings of some beers we are really proud to serve," said Matt Fay, West Sixth Brewing

"We are also excited to welcome Wunderbar from Covington as a new vendor this year," said Sand.  "They will be serving up their delicious homemade soft pretzels and beer cheese all day right next to the beer garden."

The beer garden will be located under a brand new Evolution Stretch Tent right next to the second stage and the mess hall.  According to Sand, this type of tent is the only one of it's kind in North America.

"It's going to be a truly unique experience and we are excited to provide yet another entertainment option for all of the festival attendees," he said.

In addition, West Sixth's lighter lager,  Kinnoconik Kolsch, will be available at all the beer locations throughout the festival along with their new Dankechain Oktoberfest, Amber, Lemongrass Wheat, and their flagship IPA.

Here's the list of specialty beer tappings in the tent throughout the day:
2pm: West Sixth Heller or Heaven Double IPA
3pm: West Sixth Milk Stout
4pm: West Sixth Cream Ale
5pm: West Sixth Belgian Dubbel

Sand, believes this is going to be the best Merchants and Music yet.

"Just make sure you get there on time because there's only going to be a limited amount of each beer and when they are gone they are gone!"
