Highlands' Haley Coffey Commits to Taylor University

Highlands sophomore Haley Coffey (center) scores on a wild pitch in the first inning of Thursday's 36th District championship game at Winkler Park while Newport Central Catholic pitcher Haley Meyers (right) tries to get in position and catcher Kristen Schreiber (left) watches. Highlands won 2-1 for its first title in three years.

Highlands High School softball player Haley Coffey will sign a letter of intent to play softball at Taylor University. The signing will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, January 5, 2016, in the media center at Highlands High School.

Coffey is a six-year starter at shortstop. Over those six years, she has been the clear defensive leader, winning multiple awards and All-NKY honors along the way. Haley has a career batting average of .310 and fielding average of .975.

Haley has put in time on and off the field, including many hours outside of normal team training. She is a prime example of someone creating her own success with hard work and passion for the game of softball. That passion continues to grow as she moves closer to the next level.

“I couldn’t be more proud of her for her hard work and dedication to our program,” said Rob Coffey, head softball coach. “Taylor University is getting a great player and young lady.”
