Highlands High School head coaches Jeremy Baioni and Glen Schmidt have been selected as 2015 Kentucky Coach of the Year in their respective sports by the National Federation of High Schools (NFHS). Each year, the NFHS recognizes one coach in each sport from each state.  In Kentucky, coaches Baioni and Schmidt have been recognized for their accomplishments, dedication and commitment to athletics for the 2015 season.

Coach Baioni has served as the head baseball coach at Highlands High School since 2009. He has built the program from the 14-20 record of his first year to playing in three of four 9th Region Finals. Under Coach Baioni’s leadership, Highlands finished the 2015 season with a 35-7 record and the trophy for State Runner-Up. This is the first baseball team to play in the state championship game in Highlands’ history. Additionally, many players from the 2015 team received local and state-wide recognitions for their athletic accomplishments.

Coach Schmidt helped start the bowling program at Highlands and has been the head bowling coach since 2013. Under his guidance, Highlands has been competing at the highest level in the state. In 2000, Coach Schmidt was instrumental in the drive to have bowling recognized as a sport by the KHSAA. Through his leadership, this sport has grown from four teams in 2000 to more than 20 Northern Kentucky high schools who now participate in competitive bowling. His dedication to bowling has created opportunities for students who otherwise would not have participated in high school athletics.
