Waterworks Road Bridge Immediately Closed

Yesterday, the City of Newport sent a notice that the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet informed them that the Waterworks Road bridge would be closed immediately.

The City of Fort Thomas, Fort Thomas Schools, residents on Waterworks Road, Newport Schools and Campbell County Emergency Dispatch were notified of the immediate closure.

FTM has reached out to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet for a schedule of repairs and to ask if whether this was scheduled maintenance or an emergency repair.

According to the Kentucky Department of Transportation, the bridge is owned and maintained by Newport.

The original correspondence below:

This morning (2-12-16) at 10 a.m. we were informed by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Department of Highways, that effective immediately the State owned bridge crossing Waterworks Road is being closed to vehicular traffic until further notice and pending repairs.

This will cause a complete closure of the roadway in the area of 1542/1605 Waterworks Road. Barricades will be in place. Please plan alternate routes and expect delays as you travel through this area. Emergency responders have been notified. At this time we have not been given a schedule for when repairs will be made.

We appreciate the patience and cooperation of residents and those from neighboring communities who travel this area.
