Cold Spring's regularly scheduled council meeting will take place tonight, and Cavanaugh will be in attendance to give a presentation on the city's historical pictures, further stating that she will not make any further statements about the March 20 incident.
"I do not want our meeting turned into a three-ring circus," said Cavanaugh.
Cavanaugh released a statement on the incident.
"The incident that occurred was a very unfortunate family matter between myself; my husband; and our son that quickly escalated and got out of control. Every family has issues and things happen, but since I'm on council, my personal life is subject to public knowledge.
The charges themselves and through the media it can sound like there's more to it than what there actually is, but I take responsibility for myself and my actions.
However my personal life does not effect my position on council; my concern for the city; or my service to my community and what I was elected to do. Those that know me personally and those who have followed me on social media for the last 4 years, know that I feel it is a privilege to be on city council and it is not something I take for granted.
My concern isn't so much about myself, but about more unnecessary negative attention brought to the city, and there is no one more disappointed and embarrassed than I am in myself, and I want to humbly extend my sincerest apologies to the residents of Cold Spring.
I appreciate the support and kind words from family; friends; and residents and all I can do is deal with it and move on.
I've never been arrested in my life, but when you're laying on a cold hard floor, one tends to do a lot of thinking and soul searching, and sometimes it's the things that bring out the worst in us, that help us to focus on what's important in life and to make the necessary changes to better ourselves. There's a lesson in everything, if you are aware and look closely enough.
I will handle my personal family matters privately.
So, in the spirit of fair and balanced reporting, now that you got the negative side of my personal life, there is a positive side to my public life.
I am the city's Historical Curator, and Cold Spring will be celebrating its 75th anniversary on Sat. June 25 here at the city building. We are bringing back the Country Cruisers Car Show and The Belairs (formerly Hotwax) will be performing the Concert in the Park. There will be a formal historical presentation plus lots of other activities for everyone. This is something I am very excited about and have been anticipating and planning for the last 4 years and with my long family history, it means something to me and it is something I am very proud to be doing.
There's nothing more to say about my personal issues, and I am going to respectfully ask the media out of courtesy, to please not call our city clerks and mayor. They have much more important things to do besides making statements about my private family matters which in no way are related to the real issues of the City of Cold Spring.
Thank You for your time in listening to what I have to say."
