The Art House of Fort Thomas Will Move Location, City

The Art House is located at 19 N. Fort Thomas Avenue in Fort Thomas. FTM file.

Fort Thomas’ Art House will soon be closing its doors in Fort Thomas and moving to another Northern Kentucky city.

The Art House will be partnering with The Madison Gallery and Inspirado Restaurant in Covington to renovate a second floor space across from the Madison Event Center.

Fort Thomas Matters has received an exclusive statement from owner Parrish Monk:

"The Art House is closing its location in Fort Thomas by May 4th. However, the over 72 local artists and artisans and 5 organization that made the Art House what it was will continue to thrive and work in the local community. Unfortunately, despite our tremendous support from the community members, the City of Fort Thomas, and BBT Bank (the building’s former owner), our operating expenses in our current location are way more than we can handle as a small, not-for-profit arts organization. After almost a year and a half of operating, we were able to accomplish a lot in a very short period of time helping hundreds of local artists and small creative businesses along the way.

The good news is that we are joining forces with another existing local arts organization later this summer to continue our core mission of providing equitable access to the arts and art business opportunities to established, independent, emerging, and aspiring artists and artisans from the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky areas. We will remain in part an art business incubator, an art gallery, a local artisan retail shop, an art education organization, and an artist collaborative in our new location with our community partners.

Thank you to our volunteers, donors, and supporters for your support in helping us to build the foundation for the Art House. We want to thank you in advance for supporting us in our new location. Stay tuned; we will continue to work with our community partners and have some really big plans coming up in the near future."

FTM has learned that BB&T has sold the building and new owners will be taking ownership in short order.

Monk and his wife Sharahn, who were instrumental in helping to organize the city's Art Around Towne events during the summer with Fort Thomas Central owner, Barb Thomas, will still help facilitate those on the third Friday of each month during the summer.

With the help of The Bank of Kentucky, The Art House, renovated the space at 19 N. Fort Thomas Avenue and opened in November of 2014.

  1. Really sorry to see this very cool organization leave Fort Thomas. The Art House added a lot to our community. I'm amazed at the success of Art Around Towne and am happy to hear that Monk and Sharahn will still be a part of that. Good luck to them in their new location!
