Fort Thomas School Board Round-Up (May)

Board of Education. FTM file. 
The Fort Thomas Board of Education meeting was held on Monday, May 9, 2016.  All board members were present (with Brad Fennell absent for the first half of the meeting), and the meeting was called to order at 6:32 pm.

There were seven instructors that submitted their retirement papers.

Renovation Update:

Jerry Wissman gave the board an update on the current status of the school renovations, noting that the plaza is nearing completion with some lighting, striping, signage, and landscaping work yet to be finished.  A motion was made by Lisa Duckworth to pay $142,260.55 to Century Construction for the HHS gym renovation and was seconded by Jeff Beach.  The motion passed unanimously (with Brad Fennell’s absence).

Another motion was made by Jeff Beach to pay $760,558.50 to Morel Construction for renovations at Moyer.  The motion was seconded by Karen Allen and passed unanimously (with Brad Fennell’s absence).

Insurance:

A third motion was made by Lisa Duckworth to accept the bid and to award a contract to Crawford Insurance in the amount of $215,444.15 for Property, Fleet, General Liability, Educators' Legal Liability, Excess Umbrella Liability, Workers Compensation and Student insurance services.  The motion was seconded by Jeff Beach and passed unanimously (with Brad Fennell’s absence).

Budget: 

Approval of the Draft Working Budget for the 2016-17 School Year passed with a motion by Jeff Beach and a second by Karen Allen (with Brad Fennell’s absence).

Publishing: 

Approval to accept all bids and award a contract to the lowest and best bidder, Harmony Publishing, for publishing services to produce the district calendar and Traditions for the 2016-17 school year passed with a motion by Lisa Duckworth and a second by Jeff Beach (with Brad Fennell’s absence).

New Position:

Lisa Duckworth made a motion to add a new position of Job Coach and was seconded by Karen Allen.  The motion was passed unanimously (with Brad Fennell’s absence).  FTM will have more forthcoming on this story.

Digital Conversion:

Karen Allen reported that the Elementary Digital Conversion committee has held parent information meetings at the elementary schools. Meetings for Johnson and Woodfill parents have been well-attended. The meeting for Moyer parents is scheduled for May 16.

All board members encouraged the community to attend the Open House celebrating the completion of HHS renovation on Sunday, May 22nd at 12:30 pm, beginning on the plaza.
