The scene today in the 1100 block of S. Fort Thomas Ave. |
According Fort Thomas Police Lt. Rich Whitford, one man was taken to University of Cincinnati Hospital and is in critical condition and one man was immediately taken into custody and taken to the Campbell County Detention Center.
The alleged perpetrator is Hank Shouse, a man who police describe as "someone they know well." The victim's name has not been released.
Witnesses on scene said that the two had a verbal altercation, which turned physical. There was a punch and then the perpetrator stabbed the victim in the stomach with a "pocket knife." The victim then stumbled into the street, where he fell.
The perpetrator stayed on scene until police and emergency responders arrived.
A witness on the scene told Fort Thomas Matters that he saw the fight and that he ran over to help the man that had just been stabbed. He said he heard the victim tell him that "he was going to die."
Also according to witnesses who knew them both, Shouse and the victim had a long history with one another, which may have caused the altercation.
Fort Thomas resident, Tom Pendery, is a regular at Fort Thomas Pizza, where the incident occurred in front of this afternoon. The power was out there today due to the storm last night, so he walked up the street to another local establishment for lunch.
"Fort Thomas Pizza is a family friendly environment. I've eaten there for a long time and never seen anything like that," said Pendery, who also said he's familiar with the alleged perpetrator. He told FTM that he had recently seemed very angry.
"This guy has been a little off base lately. He’s been mad at everything," he said.
John Coffman Jr., who owns Coffman's Realty right across the street from the scene said he's never seen anything like that in Fort Thomas.
"I've been here since 1976 and nothing like this has happened at this intersection," he said.

ReplyDeleteNo he didn't. He was a great person.
DeleteIt is true. He passed at UC yesterday.
DeleteAlso heard the same. Very brutal, happen right around the corner from where I live. I have to question how much these two men were given to drink.

ReplyDeleteThe witness clearly states that "the victim" assaulted the "assailant", walked away, then charged at the assailant. A clear case of self defense.
Well i don't know how the whole altercation took place but I do know that I have known hank about 15 yrs. And he is a great person also. Caring and not a violent person, proud to call him my friend and brother!
ReplyDeleteNot a violent person? BULLSHIT! He supposedly spent time in a Georgia pen for assaulting a girlfriend.
