Duke Energy Power Outage Update in Fort Thomas

FTM file. Submitted by Sheriff Mike Jansen.
A quick storm cell rushed through the region this afternoon, and in Fort Thomas, left a wake of damage.

The strong winds and rain knocked over two utility poles from the ground on Highland Avenue, near Ridgewood Apartments. A 100-year old oak tree was also fallen by the winds.

One person was trapped in their vehicle when the wires from the pole landed on their vehicle.  Sheriff Mike Jansen, who was off-duty at the time witnessed the scene and jumped into action.

He said the Fort Thomas Fire Department was assisting them to safely exit it and there were no injuries.

"The Sheriff's office helped Fort Thomas Police in securing the area with blocking the streets and making it safe for the residents," said Jansen.

Highland Avenue, from Sweetbriar to Highview, is closed to through traffic.
