New Cookie Shop Opens in Midway District

Sue Rother and Katie Brumley have brought their cookie bakery to Fort Thomas. FTM file.

Fort Thomas residents and mother-daughter duo Sue Rother and Katie Brumley have brought a sweet tooth lover's dream to the Midway District: The Cookie Shop.

They opened their doors in Fort Thomas on Wednesday, November 10, directly next to the martial arts studio and adjacent to the Olde Fort Pub.

Rother opened her former bakery, Cake Creations by Sue, across the river in Western Hills in 1998. In the early years the bakery focused on wedding and celebration cakes. They added cookies, including traditional and decorated sugar cookies. The cookies became such a hit that they dropped the cakes and now run a business based on cookies—hence the name change.

The bakery is located at 1049 S. Fort Thomas Ave., in the Midway District. FTM file.

The Cookie Shop offers convenient parking in the back. FTM file.

Both Rother and Bromley live in Fort Thomas so it made sense that they move their business here. The mother-daughter team spent a long time looking for appropriate commercial space and found it at 1049 S. Fort Thomas Ave.

"It works out well because we have a production area and a reception area that are separate," Brumley says.

Brumley said her husband Adam, a Highlands graduate, help find the space when he learned that Sarelli's would be moving to Northside and would leave some commercial space open for them.

"It sort of worked out perfectly for us," she said.

Decorated cookies can be theme based or custom made.

The cookies are so popular that Rother and Brumley recommend placing your order a couple weeks out.

"Cookie Jar Classics" include chocolate chip, peanut butter, oatmeal raisin and cutout sugar cookies with frosting and sprinkles. These are $10 per dozen with a minimum order of two dozen when ordering in advance.

Basic decorated cookies cost $20 per dozen and custom cookies cost $27 per dozen.

"We've had people come in already, checking us out to see what we're all about," Brumley says. "We love for people to come in."

"Cookie Jar Classics" are offered on a first come, first serve basis for $10 per dozen.

Soon they plan to offer select cookies on a first come, first serve basis.
