Witnesses told police the light was green, and the juvenile crossed against the light.

He was taken to St. Elizabeth Fort Thomas Hospital, where he later died of his injuries, police said.

Superintendent of Campbell County Schools took to social media to confirm the news last night.

"It is with great sadness that I share with you that one of our CCHS students died early this evening after being struck by an automobile while attempting to cross US 27 on foot. At this time, we are activating our district crisis response team and will provide counseling support for both students and staff throughout the day tomorrow at CCHS. I ask that everyone please keep our high school family and the family of this student in your thoughts and prayers."

The victim's name is being withheld.

The driver who hit the boy will not be charged.

In September, a Campbell County Middle School student was struck as he rode his bicycle on his way to school, also off of Alexandria Pike.
