Local Toy Drive And Fundraiser Underway

As a child, Christmas is a magical time - visiting Santa, going to see the holiday lights, delicious food and treats, spending time with family and the long awaited Christmas morning waking up to a tree full of gifts.

Imagine, however, having to spend Christmas in the hospital. It is a sad reality for hundreds of families that will be spending Christmas at Cincinnati Children's Hospital this year.

Home to the country's busiest pediatric emergency department, Children's Hospital is a 598-bed pediatric hospital ranked third among all Honor Roll hospitals in the 2016 U.S News & World Report.

Local resident Lexi Rawlings said she has known friends who have had the unfortunate experience of their child having an extended stay at Children's. While Children's Hospital is the best place to be with a child suffering from illness, it can be a very difficult time. This year, along with some friends, Rawlings has put together a toy drive and fundraiser called Gala for Gifts that will take place Sunday, December 11 at Fort Thomas Pizza & Tavern.

This is an advertisement.

There is currently a box there where people can drop off new, unwrapped toys in their original packaging. Gift cards are also a great idea for families. On Sunday, from 12 to 7 p.m., there will be house specials and a silent auction. All proceeds will go toward gifts for the children staying at Children's Hospital this holiday season.

"I have a child of my own, and I can not imagine what those families are dealing with so anything we can do to help put a smile on their faces will be great," said Rawlings.
